  • Palatul Knossos fiind centrul civilizaÈ›iei lor, minoicii au fost forÈ›a principală a populaÈ›iei insulei în timpul epocii bronzului.

    Civilizația lor, ca și palatul, a fost distrusă în erupția vulcanului Santorini.

    Săpăturile efectuate de Arthur Evans în 1900-1913 și 1922-1930 au scos la iveală marele palat din Knossos, împreună cu alte mari descoperiri de mare importanță pentru cultura și viața minoică, care sunt încă păstrate în muzeul arheologic din Heraklion.
