You cannot leave Crete without having been on a Wine Tasting tour.
Enjoy day full of wine, gastronomy and history in Apokoronas/ Chania region.
First, you will visit a charming village and the historical – traditional museum of Apokoronas.
There you will explore 7 rooms of Cretan history and great descriptions about the way of living in the past. You will learn how the locals' lifestyle used to be back in the days, admire the traditional Cretan house and the old everyday tools they used to work with.
Later on you will head to the foothills of the White Mountains on the way to the local winery. There you will meet the specialists of the awarded “Romeiko”. Its production performed with a special way and its taste will blow your mind. You will taste the famous Cretan wine varieties Vidiano, Vilana, Malvazia and Kotsifali in the great view of the White Mountains.
The winery has also an impressive art gallery where you can see a 500 year old treadle, and walk around the herbal garden and the museum of traditional Cretan exhibits. Moving underground, feeling the heartbeat of the White Mountains, you will visit the cellar which is inside the cave where steadfast rocks cover the cylinder bottles.
If you visit Crete during the season of cheese making, next stop is a local cheese making factory. After the tour of the factory, you will taste some local cheese varieties like Graviera, Anthotiros or Mizithra and you will have the opportunity to observe the cheese-making process. Traditionally, cheese will be served with Cretan rusk and raki or rakomelo!
This will definitely give you an apetite, so the next stop will be a local tavern where you will enjoy a traditional Cretan lunch.
