Chrisi Island Tour

Chrisi island, also called the Golden Island, is only 5 km long, 1 km wide and uninhabited. It is only 15 kilometers away from Crete, and the Libyan Sea surrounds its shores. The island has a subtropical climate, so the temperature is always slightly higher than in Crete. Chrisi is primarily beautiful beaches, delicate sand with a golden color and crystal clear water.
The island is a nature reserve, it grows on the largest, naturally formed cedar forest in Europe. Most trees are around 200 years old, and some are even 300 years old and reach a size of 10 meters. Cedar trees have a specific, delicate smell with soothing properties. The island is also known for the great variety of seashells that have become its showcase.Τhere is no typical tourist infrastructure on Chrisi. The only building is a lighthouse, a chapel and a tavern. Thanks to this Chrisi can preserve her virginity and beauty. No wonder that it has been protected by the Natura 2000 program.A trip to the Golden Island can be a great alternative for people who want to relax on a paradise beach.
Arrival by a comfortable bus to the port of Ierapetra is about 1.5 hours, and a 45-minute boat ride. You will spend about 5 hours on the island. The tour program depends on you. What can you do on Chrisi? Absolutely nothing and probably that’s the point. Cruise on Chrisi is primarily an escape from civilization, hustle and noise. In addition to sunbathing, I encourage you to walk through the cedar forest, collect seashells and enjoy the wonderful view. I also recommend taking with you masks and tubes to see life under the water surface.
